The BM Prints and Drawings database has just been made available online. Accessible via the BM website, there are about 220,000 records, 100,000 of them with images. All the drawings are described individually apart from some sketchbooks; and all the mounted prints as well as many in the unmounted series, on which we are making quite rapid progress. To access the resource go to The British Museum website and see the section called Research. Please use the advanced search page and read the Help screens carefully to get the best out of the database. The search mechanism is sophisticated and powerful, and also allows you to access the underlying thesauri and authority files for individuals (often with biographies), subject matter, techniques and so forth. Most of the entries were not specifically designed for online use, and many are still rudimentary; and if you spot any mistakes (as the colleagues inLondon do on a daily basis) please let them know via the link on the results page.
