Stijn Alsteens assistant curator of drawings at the Met.

Stijn Alsteens (30) will succeed Michiel Plomp at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, effective 1 January next year. Mr. Alsteens, Belgian citizen, who studied art history and Russian litterature and linguistics at the Universities of Louvain and Amsterdam, has been assistant curator at the Fondation Custodia (Frits Lugt Collection) in Paris since 2001. Alsteens is specialized in Dutch and Flemish drawings of the seventeenth century and Russian art. In the Met, he will take care of the Northern drawings. Before he moves to New York, he will finish his work on the forthcoming exhibition next Fall in the Dutch Institute in Paris on Dutch and Flemish artists in France (5 Oct.-3 Dec. 2006).
