Dr. Michael W. Kwakkelstein has been appointed the new senior curator of the art collections theTeylers Museum in Haarlem. He will succeed Carel van Tuyll who will leave for the Louvre next month. Kwakkelstein studied art history at Leiden University and was trained there in the Print Room, like most of the present print room curators in Holland. He received his Ph.D. in 1994 with his thesis Leonardo da Vinci as a physiognomist. Theory and practice.

Kwakkelstein also published on Leonardo in several articles in the main art journals. In 1998 he published an annotated edition of Willem Goeree’s Inleydinge tot de Alghemeene Teyckenkonst. During the last years Kwakkelstein has been employed by the Netherlands Academy for Scientific Research NWO. He lives and works in Florence. His appointment in Haarlem is effective 1 January 2005.
