From Goltzius to Van Gogh. Drawings & Paintings from the P. and N. de Boer Foundation
13 December 2014 – 8 March 2015 | Paris

Fondation Custodia in Paris presents an exhibition of 95 drawings and 20 paintings from the P. & N. de Boer Foundation in Amsterdam. The collection was formed by the Amsterdam art dealer Piet de Boer (1894-1974) mainly during the 1920’s and 1930’s, the years in which other famous Dutch collectors like Frits Lugt, Franz Koenigs and Jon van Regteren Altena were also active. After the death of his wife Piet de Boer transferred the collection to the foundation in 1964. The last time the drawings were exhibited was in the Singer Museum in Laren in 1966, which comprised of 274 sheets by mainly Dutch and Italian artists. Now, almost half a century later, a new public will have a chance to see a choice selection of both drawings and paintings, by Netherlandish artists, first in Paris (13 December 2014 – 8 March 2015) and afterwards in Amsterdam (April-June 2015). A book will be published to accompany the exhibition. It will contain contributions by a number of specialists who will shed light on the exhibited works, a great many of which have not, or only sporadically, featured in the art-historical literature. All the works on show will be reproduced in colour, with comparative illustrations. The history of the P. de Boer gallery and the P. & N. de Boer Foundation will be described in the introduction.
